I am so excited to meet you all and I am looking forward to getting to know each and every child. This is going to be a great school year!!!!!!!!!!!!
A little information about your new teacher.......
This is my 19th year of teaching and my 13th year at Bush.
I am married and I have 2 beautiful Fur Babies (see below).
The little Shih tzu is Annabelle and the new addition to our family is Henry the yellow lab (he's not so little anymore).
I was born and raised Aggie ! WHOOP!
I also work at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in my "free time".
I've had many wonderful adventures throughout my life. I've swam with dolphins in Cozumel.
I've fed and played with the penguins at Moody Gardens. I even have some artwork they made me.
I've also had the opportunity to pet a sea lion!
We hope everyone enjoyed the extra day off! Field Trip information will be coming home today in your student’s yellow daily folder. Our field trip will be March 31st at P-6 Farms. Chaperones will be needed. If you would like to serve as a chaperone, please indicate on the permission slip. Chaperones will need to purchase their own ticket at P-6 Farm. Box Tops will be collected this Friday, February 24th.
Reading: We will finish up Super Storms and begin another non-fiction selection, What Makes Day and Night.
Writing: The kids are working hard writing their chapters (paragraphs) for their All About Books.
Social Studies: We will be discussing past Presidents (Lincoln, Washington and Roosevelt) and later in the week monuments that we have to honor our Presidents.
Math: This week we are starting Unit 12, Addition & Subtraction of 3-Digit Numbers. The students will solve
one-step and multistep word problems involving addition and subtraction within 1,000 using a variety of strategies based on place value, including algorithms.
Strategies may include properties of operations. For Example, 432+241 may be thought of as
(400 + 200) + (30 +40) +(2 +1)
600 + 70 + 3 = 673
The students will generate and solve problem situations for a given mathematical number sentence involving addition and subtraction of whole numbers within 1,000. They will represent and solve addition and subtraction word problems where unknowns may be any one of the terms in the problem. There are 3 types of problems for this standard. Result unknown 345 + 234 = ?, Change unknown 345 + ? = 679 and Start unknown ? + 265 = 659 and the same is true for subtraction. This unit will take us to March 7th which will be the test date
Science: This week we will begin our next unit on Earth and Space. The students will observe, describe, record patterns of objects in the sky, including the appearance of the Moon. The vocabulary we will be discussing is Sun, Energy, Solar Energy, Rotation, Orbit, Season, Moon, Moonlight, Crater, and Constellation.
Wednesday – Library Day
Friday – Homework Due, Spelling Test.
Have a great week,
Mrs. Nettuno and Mrs. Bruce
