Weekly Update:

Dear Parents,

Economics Fair projects are due today. Progress Reports will come home Tuesday. There will be a school assembly Thursday morning for the Spring Choir Concert, due to the schedule change, Reading Group Volunteers for 206 will not be needed. Friday is our PAWS for Pride Assembly for Cooperation. Please wear orange on Friday.

This Week:

Reading: Our story this week is Estela’s Swap. We will review story elements, summarizing a story and sequencing a story. We will take a reading comprehension test over short stories the week of May 1st – 5th. We have been preparing for this test for quite some time. We have read a several story selection pack and review together. Packet have come home in Tuesdays Folders, these packets are great to keep and review. We will also read and discuss different types of poetry.

Writing: We will continue on with poetry. This week we will write an all about me poem, an acrostic poem, a Who? poem, poems with rhyme, and a Wild Bunch poem. We will take our Poetry test most likely the week of May 8th.

Grammar: review

Spelling: inflectional endings: ed, s/es and ing. Spelling test just covers ed.

Social Studies: We will hold our Economics Fair and present our posters. We will review our unit over Economics and take our test on Friday May 28th .

Math:  Tuesday we have our Fractions Test. Students willl need to be able to partition objects and name the parts (ex: three fourths, one half, etc.), count fractional parts beyond one whole using words and recognize how many parts it takes to make one whole. For example, 7 fourths is the same as 1 whole and 3 fourths. They will need to identify examples and nonexamples of halves, fourths, and eighths and also, decompose two dimensional shapes such as cutting out a square from a rectangle, dividing a shape in half or partitioning a rectangle into two identical triangles. On Wednesday we will revisit place value to 1,200 through the end of the week.

Science: This week we are still continuing our unit on Animal Characteristics. We will have our test on Friday, April 28th. Students will be taking home their Interactive Science Notebook today so that they can use it to study with. Please send it back with your child on Friday.
